In Case of a Collapsing Bridge…

The bridge collapse in Minneapolis, Minnesota this week is certainly evidence that anything can happen to you at any time so it’s good to be prepared.

One of the best shows on TV (in my opinion) is Mythbusters.  In this piece of video they demonstrate what you can and cannot do in the case of a submerged vehicle.  Watch it.

It’s also a good idea to have an emergency hammer  in your car.  I have one and it sits in the map pocket of my door so it’s handy should I need it.  There are several companies that make them and they are available in the automotive departments of many big box stores.  Almost all of them have a hammer to break your car window along with a knife blade in the handle which will cut your seatbelt should it become jammed.  While it’s good piece of mind to have one for myself in my car, I also can see it’s use if I happen upon an accident where a car is flipped over and the weight of the person inside causes the seatbelt to lock.  And for that matter you can always whack some idiot who tries to rob you.
