World’s Longest Garage Sale

This weekend is The World’s Longest Garage Sale.  It actually started Thursday making it a 4 day event.  It all began in 1987 and for only the second year in the sale’s history, Ohio has counties that are taking part.  The sale is headquartered in Jamestown, Tennessee but streches as far south as Gadsden, Alabama and as far north as the Ohio /Michigan border.  For the most part it exclusively follows US Route 127 all the way through Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio for a grand total of 630 miles.  Here’s a map showing the route for this crazy event.  While the link at the top of this entry is for the national website, Ohio has created a website of it’s own to help guide people around the state.  HGTV even covers this event and on Tuesday will air a special featuring last year’s sale.  One can only assume a film crew will be roaming around capturing video for the next TV special.

…and if for some reason you are busy this year, plan for next year as the sale will be held August 7-10, 2008.  But c’mon, is there anything else you’d really rather be doing on this hot weekend besides spending your time buying junk you don’t need? ;)
